How many times do you check your watch at work? Do you sometimes feel like It’s been hours since you’ve last checked the time, when in reality it’s only been a few minutes? The day crawls by slowly and time barely seems to pass when you’re sitting at your desk. Unfortunately, there is no time machine that can make your day pick up its pace, but we do have some tips that can help you beat that working day rut:
First Things First, Start the Day Right
Nothing will set you off better than a good cup of coffee and a healthy breakfast. Make sure you allocate enough time before work to fix yourself a nutritious breakfast, packed with protein, fruits, whole-grains and vegetables. A proper breakfast will refuel you with energy, and you’ll realize how your morning will go by faster when you’re not dragging yourself through it.
Make Your Workspace More Comfortable
If your chair is not comfortable, and you’re slouching over your desk, then time will painstakingly pass by. Knowing that you’re going to be spending most of your day at your desk, then make sure you’re comfortable. Optimize your workspace to ensure productivity and efficiency.
Set Goals and Reward Yourself
If you’ve got a few tasks piling up, then it’s probably time to set some goals. Organize your time and reward yourself after meeting every goal. You can either choose to take a short break, have a KitKat, or take yourself out to lunch. By meeting your goals and rewarding yourself you will definitely have something to look forward to, and you won’t feel the day dragging by.
Make the Most Out of Your Lunch Break
Do not spend your lunch hour at your desk! Enjoy your lunch at a different place, or even outside the office. What you really need is a change of scenery that will help you recharge and refresh before you have to dive back to your work.
Give Yourself a “Five” Minute Break
Sometimes all you really need is a mental and physical break. Dedicate five minutes to take a walk, talk to your colleagues, or listen to some music. When your legs start to feel numb, or your eyes start to twitch from staring at your computer screen for a long time, then you need a five minute break. You will always perform better with you’re taking a few minutes to get up, move about, stretch, or have a little snack.
Food, Food, and Food
Who doesn’t love food? Sometimes the right meal, or the right snack will just hit the spot. Keep some snacks in your drawer (Try not to load up on unhealthy snacks!) Opt for keeping fruit-and-nut bars, baked chips, or pretzels in your desk drawer. You can also always plan out a lunch outing with your colleagues; it will definitely give you something to look forward to. Time will pass by fast when you’re looking forward for something and keeping yourself busy!
