The title clearly states that my role is a Marketing Officer at Akhtaboot – The career network. This job title necessitates constantly learning new things, putting a variety of skills to use and working on new and different campaigns. This means that no two days would be the same for me and I would not have it any other way. As a result of advancements in technology, the marketing functions of a company today differ tremendously compared to several years ago. The audience we’re aiming at is both invisible and everywhere. Hence, new skills, techniques and tools are required to reach them. Knowing which are the right ones to invest time and money in and how to do them correctly is imperative.
In June 2016, I joined Akhtaboot as a Marketing Intern, working with the wonderful Mais Gousous, our Head of Marketing Communications, amd Rana Qubain, our Head of Performance Marketing and Social Media. Since then I continued to support the business, as a Marketing Officer in a part-time capacity alongside the final year of my Marketing degree study after which I joined as a full timer at Akhtaboot.
My experience made me realize that finding the best tool, knowing which campaigns are useful, and assessing what kind of content is best for our audience of job seekers and employers are all indispensable skills that are needed to survive in today’s online marketing world. Due to the continuous development of new tools in marketing, it is essential that marketing officers are able to learn quickly and adapt to change easily.
My role ranged from creating infographics to business development, Google Adwords and campaign execution, and even acting in some videos. I was both surprised and pleased to find myself very engaged with the marketing field and the type of work I was doing. However, as I have previously said, it’s very important to be flexible because it is very difficult to predict what the next great marketing tool will be so we invested a lot of time in testing different tools and brainstorming new ideas that might prove to be effective in the future.
A typical day for me starts with checking and answering my emails. Our COO, Abe Seksek starts off his day by sending us readings related to growth hacking, new online marketing tools and human resources. It’s a must to read these articles before I do anything else. Then I move forward to researching, coming up with new tools to increase leads and sharing them with the team. This way I can keep an eye on new marketing trends that might help the company in achieving its goals. Each month, we have a couple of projects that the team works on, I continue working on my part of that project until the working day ends.
So, there it is, a day in my life as a Marketing Officer. I find all of the elements of my role fascinating, fast-paced and fun, particularly when coupled with the culture at Akhtaboot. The team has been supportive from the beginning. They really value and reward hard work. What’s not to love about it?
